How To Get YouTube embedded links validated

As you may know, the YouTube embedded links are not valid either XHTML 1.0 Transitional or HTML 4.01 Transitional. YouTube offers you a link like this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param value="always"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

This code implements a lot of information for the browser, but you only need the object-tag and the movie param. All others are optional parameters. Without setting them, the video will behave like default settings of the browser. So, this code can be shorten to:

<object style="width:425px; height:350px;" data=" "><param name="movie" value=" " /></object>

The only disadvantage is that you now have not the possibility to modify the appearance, i.e. colors.

I’ve tested this code in all common browsers, and it works.

  • Internet Explorer 5.5 (IETester)
  • Internet Explorer 6 (IETester)
  • Internet Explorer 7 (IETester)
  • Internet Explorer 8
  • Firefox 3.6
  • Opera 10.10
  • Safari 4
  • Google Chrome 4
