In this section I want to acquaint you with the usual commands and terminology of Twitter. When you first start, there are a lot of words which you may not know, but let me explain. If you’re interested in this topic, please read the other parts of this series. Twitter – Lesson 1/7: What is …
Today, Google has launched a new project named Google Buzz. With this, Google wants to participate on the market of social networks. By a first look, it appears like a mixture of Facebook wall, Twitter and Google Wave. It’s not a secret, that Google Wave doesn’t really achieve a great acceptance so maybe Google Buzz …
In Word 2007 there is no shortcut for inserting a section break. Even, if you want to customize and create own shortcuts, these functionality is not really easy to find. I think this is one of the biggest disadvantages in Word 2007. But on tortoiseshell.net I found a nice tutorial about defining own shortcuts.
Most of you know that you can search Google or your preferred search engine by entering your search query into the address bar. But, when you insert a single string you get referred to the first result directly. To avoid this, Firefox offers a simple method.
Open Google
Right-click on the search field
Choose Add a keyword for this search
Name the title you want and define a keyword. I choose a »g« for Google, but it’s up to you.
You can also manually add a new favorite in the favorite menu. Type in the name for this link, a keyword and one of the url in the list below. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, I admit that comparing ICQ with IRC is like comparing apples and oranges. ICQ is colorful and widely spread. IRC is the opposite, text-based and rarely spread – even back to the basics. But, you won’t believe, both have similarities. IRC and ICQ based on the TCP protocol and tried XMPP. Even both have no encryption out-of-the-box but offer additional possibilities.
Enough of these similarities, the most annoying feature of ICQ are these flashing and toned emotions. Short after those are the user-modified status messages with a lot of special characters, colors and misspelling. I don’t understand why it is cool to replace every g with a q or why a word has to be read mirrored. This is one of the points, which confirmed my decision to use IRC. Read the rest of this entry »

If you have someone on the phone, it is nearly impossible to open the Windows task manager pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL. Or, if you have the welcome screen activated, you have to click a button, before opening the task manager.
This you can simply avoid by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC instead.
Give it a try, this shortcut works on every machine I used.

Dropbox is a web service to backup personal files and synchronize it with others. It was founded in 2007 and launching publicity in late 2008. Dropbox is free for use up to 2 GB of files. If you want to increase this capacity, you can recruit your friends to this service and both get 250 MB more. The limit is exceeded at 3 GB. Since end of March, Dropbox has increased their maximum earnable free space for inviting your friend to 8 GB. So, maybe you want your first additional 250 MB by signing up with my referral.
Dropbox can be used either with Windows, Mac or Linux computers. Even the offered client is not inevitably needed to use Dropbox because all actions can be performed through the web interface. But the client enables some useful features, like unlimited file size. Read the rest of this entry »

Parkour has gained more and more popularity, but this stunts by Xin Sarith Azuma Phan Wuku are amazing and nearly incredible. This guy makes a fool out of gravity.

Normally, Google set a cookie to save your local settings. When you enter google.com into your browser, you get redirected to for example a German language interface with preferred search results in your local language. I’m automatically redirected to my iGoogle interface. But in some cases, I want the official google (not only for viewing the latest Google Doodle).
To avoid this, you have three options:
Click on the button “Google in English” at the bottom of your window.
This will also have the same effect as possibility three and ignores all set cookies.
Delete your cookies.
Will solve the problem once, the next time you’ll get redirected again.
In some cases, you want to insert a calculated field with a value depending of today’s date. By entering the value [Today] into the formular, you get an error like this:
This error is caused by a reserved status of the name [Today]. In general, it is only possible to use them for filtering results. But I found a little workaround on the Blog of Chris Johnson. There, he tells us to create a column named »Today«, create a calculated field with a formula using [Today] and delete the first column after this. Read the rest of this entry »

By reading the previous parts of this series maybe you’ve learned something new about Twitter and know how to use it. But it still had made an effect on our daily business. People feel more connected and in touch with others. Unlike writing an email you get everything you want to read instantly and be informed quickly about real-time events. As I’ve said some lessons before, Twitter is much faster than a newspaper, but it has more than this benefit. For example reading a newspaper contains a lot of information about one event. But it’s written by mostly one author and you read only one point of view. Attending a discussion you can read some more and build your own position.
Maybe you know the situation, when you’ve been on holiday and after returning, friends and family wanted to see pictures and listen to your stories. So, you have to tell different persons the same story over and over again. By using Twitter you can update them directly and all are able to look at some pictures. Best argument is that you can’t forget somebody, who could be mad about this. Read the rest of this entry »

Sometimes, it is possible to change the pagination in Word. For example, you have a cover (page 1) followed by an index (page 2) and then the pages should start with number 1. Although, I would prefer the content starting with page number 3, I will explain how to modify the pagination.
First of all, most of you know generally, how to insert a page number. For all others, activate the ribbon Insert, then click on Page Number and choose your favorite location and formatting of the page number like the following screenshot.
This last section will show you some third party services to enhance your efficiency through Twitter. A lot of these things are nice gimmicks but will provide you some useful features. In the following part I will give a look on some examples of the wide ocean of services extending Twitter. l If you don’t know the basics already, please take a look on previous chapters:
Since Twitter gains more and more popularity, services for a shorter URL grow up the same time. With an URL like “http://bit.ly/longurl”, you are able to save more characters than with “http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com/” It’s also easier to remember. With especially bit.ly is it possible to view on click statistics by adding a plus at the end of your short link. Read the rest of this entry »

My name is Nina. Since my birth in 1989, I started a lifetime-project to develop myself - that's the reason for the blog's name. Here I write about things I'm engaged in at the moment, so it's primary a public notebook for me and maybe others with same issues.
It's written in English to reach most people as possible, but I'm not a native speaker. Please bear with me in case of incorrect phrases or typos.
